I'm so sorry for the poor man, and for the end result of what will happen to his cat too. I'm glad that you stopped the spraying, if the cat is traumatized, that only would make things worse.

It's hard enough to find a good home for a cat without issues. So this is much harder in this case. I don't know what to say except that I hope something works out for this kitty. It's a shame. For the man, and for her.
