My friend, on top of his lung cancer with a compressed lung, large blood clot in his upper thigh and several others down his leg, diabetic, bedridden for almost 2 months and on 24/7 oxygen was just diagnosed yesterday with pneumonia. I saw him yesterday. He's been having panic attacks because he periodically feels he can't breathe even though he gets the oxygen through his nose and they give him periodically something called a bipap. He asked about his cat I told him all was just fine and that she's doing well (not true but didn't want him concerned) I spoke with his wife yesterday and she wondered if rather than put the cat to sleep when he passes on (we are assuming at this point - short of a miracle that he most likely will) could someone with cat behavior experience could take her? Wife can't take her as she has a disabled daughter (severely disabled) with many allergies including animal fur) I told her that would be doubtful - but I don't know enough about cats. I feel the cat should be on a temporary tranquilizer to calm her down/help with separation but there's no frequent monitoring of her. I did stop the water spray at her and used a jar of pennies as a "sound deterrent" instead - works better and noted the calming aid that was mentioned on this message board. Cat is in San Pedro, CA Los Angeles Harbor area.
