that move will have done the poor cat no good whatsoever, it is already in a bad state due to its being on its own and losing its owner. I think you should pr-empt all and get your cat rescue worker to take the cat and find it a suitable home. It is going to take MONTHS for it to settle now and will need a very special owner.
