we are in for a heat wave in Northern California. Am not looking forward to it. Girls are fine...how is everyone and your fur babies?

Sara turned 15 in July, and I recently got word that one of her littermates just died unexpectedly of kidney disease. Apparently she is one of only two remaining in her litter.

The hip dysplasia she was diagnosed with when she was a few years old appears to be acting up. I'm bringing her in to have it looked at Tuesday morning. Hard to know what to do with cats - it's not like I can keep her from jumping up and down from things. I've put some thick foam yoga pads on the floor by my bed to soften her landings there, but I can't yoga pad the entire house!

We'll see what the vet says on Tuesday.

Have the vet do a blood workup to check on Sara's kidneys...let us know what happens.

All her test results look good. Some VERY minor possible upticks in a couple of the kidney values, but he's not really concerned. We'll re-check in 6 months.

I've got an appointment with an animal chiropractor for her on the 24th. We'll see if that does anything to help her with her hip mobility.

glucosamine or something of that nature? Great news about the kidneys.

Already did

In early 2020, she was starting to get snitty when Kira initiated play, and one day it occurred to me it might be her hips. So I started her on Cosequin for Cats, and lo and behold - she and Kira started playing again! So that's been almost 3 years. I'd say it helped.

I'll keep her on the Cosequin, of course. But as she keeps getting older, it's not surprising that it's not enough on its own.
