Yes, you are right: only 2 or 3 of the cepacia strains are the really bad ones. I, too, have difficulty with the "inflammation is good for you" hypothesis in the CF context. With a normal person, you get acute inflammation to deal with a threat and then resolution of the inflammation. In CF, there is never resolution of the inflammation, and so the immune system kind of poops out after a while--so wouldn't that alter the "inflammation is good for you" judgment? As you say, there is not enough research to say one way or the other, and so we are left to speculate.
