Hi, Julie, I am so sorry to hear about this culture. I know your John was doing so much better; I just read your beautiful story on the Stories board. It is very sorrowful to hear this news as a result. But it is also true that it is important to find out what kind of cepacia this is. The so-called "environmental" cepacias, according to what I have read, can be eradicated. It is the other cepacias, those that have previously colonized the lungs of other CF pts, that must be watched carefully. The "chief" of these others is cenocepacia, otherwise called gemnovar III. See if you can find out which cepacia John is dealing with . . .
