Why do we hate One For The Vine again?

It seems like this track is pretty universally disliked within the web reviewing community, and really, I just don't get why. I don't think it's perfect of anything, the lyrics are super clunky and don't live up to their concept, and the synth tones and arrangements are quite claustrophobic, but I think there are plenty of great moments in this track to be honest. There's the genuinely pretty little melody that opens the track and pops up again later, the beautiful and uplifting "Follow Me!" section, Tony's piano runs following "let me rest for a while", the fast-paced instrumental middle section which is genuinely entertaining and well arranged (well, maybe the synth solo is a bit oppressive), and the riff that pops up after the "most likely to death" line is honestly fantastic and beautifully reprised on piano to close out the track. I don't think this song is quite a classic, but it's definitely not a failure either, and I just can't get behind the idea that this is the nadir of their prog era or whatever. I know this was nearly twenty years ago, but Starostin's remarks that the song is an "abomination" or "such a horrible load of pseudo-intelligent bullshit that I refuse to acknowledge it as a Genesis song" feel needlessly extreme to me. I guess since it's a big, important ten-minute prog epic, one may feel a need to either totally love or totally hate the track, but really, I think it's simply a decent piece. Any thoughts on this one?
