After the fourth listen it grew on me to be Hex 8 (10/15) type of album.I was very underwhelmed with the album with no individual songs that I really really like. Every Sparks album even the worst had songs I consider a minor classic such as So Important from Interior Design, With All My Might from Pulling Rabbits. I find it hard when to really rate an album highly when zero songs in the album excite me. However with repeat listen, every song in Steady Drip range from mediocre to decent (5-6/10) type material with nothing standing out as great but apart from Stravinsky's Only Hit which I dislike there is nothing that completely sucks. So perhaps I over-reacted in thinking it was the worst Sparks album. So it's a more consistent album then Pulling Rabbits and Interior Design but there isn't a single great song. It's clearly better than Ingmar Bergman and maybe slightly better Interior Design. Although I'm not sure about Pulling Rabbits What's better an album that is consistently mediocre or album that mixed bad songs with some keepers? |
