But yeah, I had been wondering for a while now if you had any familiarity with Cave since he seems almost conspicuously absent here (and on D&R as well; has he come up at all?) for such a relatively prominent artist in the same general wheelhouse as other guys you've covered.
I got into him through George's old site (where he was a near 4-star artist!) at around the same time as Tom Waits, and there's definitely a shared sensibility there that usually means if you like one you'll like the other (which is probably why there's a >90% overlap in fanbase), though there are certainly differences in terms of approach; Tom's got the jazz and Beefheart elements that are almost entirely absent in Cave's work, while Cave, coming up in the post-punk era, had a much more aggressive edge to his music early on, athough since he's 'matured' he's probably become the more accessible of the two overall - most of his albums mid-90's to the present could pass for relatively normal alt-rock or singer-songwriter.
Not that I'm pushing for you to add an artist with damn near 20 albums to your itinerary or anything, but just based on what I know of your tastes from reading your site over the years, I'd be willing to bet he's someone you'd really enjoy.
If'n you ever have the time or inclination, of course!
