It was warmer for a few nights - low 50's and high 40's compared to 20's and 30's, but then got into the 30's again. Our days were from the 60's to the low 80's. It rained one day, but it wasn't even measurable. We did have some pretty blustery winds, and will cont. to be all weekend. The warmer temperatures have been nice. Especially the 50's at night, and 70's/80's during the day, with sunshine. I actually threw off a couple of my covers for a few days!
Next week, we have chances of showers at the beginning of the week, and cooler temperatures, day and night.
We actually got a bit done this week. Dh has made good headway on clearing the plants. He's been very careful, and doing a little at a time only. At night, he puts on the pain gel that we use.
Thyri went to pre-school on Thursday - her first day at the new place. There are only about 6 children, not counting the 2 belonging to the people who run it.
When they got there, a little girl named Penny was not sure that she wanted to go. She's shy. The people sent Ds/ddil photos of Thyri a couple of times during the day, and sure enough, she and Penny were hanging out together at least part of the time. I believe that Penny is older than Thyri by a little. She's definitely larger, but then, Thyri is not large. While Dh is big, I am not, Ds is not, and her mom is not. So...!
They took her together, but ddil picked her up as Ds was working up north, and she said that Thyri protested all the way to the car. She wanted to stay with Penny.
I did notice that when they were having 'quiet time,' and the girls were all hanging out on an 'L' shaped couch, that all but Thyri and Penny were using tablets. Eventually, all children will want to be like the others. That would be a problem. One that I'm glad that I didn't have with my children.
After all of the gatherings of frogs with the rain, we have a frog pond full of polliwogs. Now that we aren't having rain, after months of downpours, this means keeping water in it so that the babies can grow and survive out of the water.
Uhura is acting like a kitten, despite the gray hairs smattering her black coat now. It's spring, and she's playing with her toys daily. She also is playing with Krypto. She was on the couch with him yesterday, and chewing on his tail. He gave me a, "Help me!" look. Mind you, he's not all that innocent, so, as long as he's careful with her, I let them work it out.
One thing that he did outside on his walk a couple of days ago, was lick her face, after she licked his leg. But, she was being a little annoying, so he stood on her tail! Since he did it twice, and has never done it before, it wasn't an accident.
And, in a tiny bit more dog news, he was sleeping today, and after snoring, he began wagging his tail. He sleep-wagged for a couple of minutes. I laughed, but it didn't wake him up.
I know where Dandy's been going at night in the cold. While I was worrying about him. The other day, he ran on his short little legs and stopped at the greenhouse. Apparently, he worked the bottom to make a small entrance. He's been sleeping in a small greenhouse. Which, I'd like to point out, is warmer than the temperature in my house when it's cold out. Smart kitty!
And, the hummingbirds are back. Not just the one, but we are up to 3 or 4. At least one seems to remember us. He stops to look at everyone, and does not startle from eating. The others are still a little skittish, but that should change once they settle in.
I'm not sure what type they all are, but one is definitely a Black Chinned, and I think that the others' are Annas.
They've been drinking a lot. I suspect that they are recovering from their long flight to get here.
I called the ag supply in the next town over, where we get chicks these days, when we want them. They had a few, but not what we want, and won't have more until sweltering July. I try to get mine in May or June so that they don't come in during extreme conditions.
Then, I called the local hardware store. They only had 1 breed, and they wouldn't have gotten along with my breeds. Darn. No more there until July or later.
Finally, as a last ditch effort, I called the local mercantile which has a hay barn. I usually get hay and hen food there. They had, get this, 3 chicks, total. But, they sounded interesting. One is a Salmon Faverolle. I've always looked at them, but never had one.
The other 2 are called Danish Brown Leghorns. Apparently, they are mellower than the white ones, but lay well. They lay white eggs, etc.
I didn't feel good about taking 1 chick. Chicks should be raised with other chicks, so I decided to take all three...now. What timing with the dog - which I knew nothing about at the time. Those were literally all the chicks that they had. Too few, but better than no chicks.
They are 1 week old, and Ds has to get them tomorrow. He's barely going to make it on time, but he will. The question is: who will raise them to a little older? I am a little concerned about how cold the house gets right now - that's why I usually wait, even though they will have a heat lamp. Also, I'm allergic to the baby food, which is an antibiotic food which I don't want them not to have. I've done it before, but it's not ideal.
That's when Ds said that he has been thinking about putting the baby cage and putting it at his house. It's always warm, no one's allergic to the feed, and it will be something that Thyri can be involved in. So, any prayers for healthy chicks that make it to adulthood would be appreciated.

Well, I am going to get back to my zoo - dogs and chickens and polliwogs, oh my!
How was your week?
