We got progressively hotter as the week went on. It was still *okay* until yesterday when we got up into the teens. We are expecting a heatwave this weekend. The Nat'l Weather Service is calling today and tomorrow an: Excessive Heat Warning. It will still be very hot next week, almost certainly over 100, but not as hot as this weekend.
We are having to mist the girls, but the water is nearly gone. We need to run the pump...hopefully Ds will be available this weekend.
The cattails are so pretty. They only grow by the frog pond, which shows as a backdrop for the hummingbird feeder. The brown part is actually brown now, after weeks of being green.
We had a great treat this week. We've always had 2 small plants of wild raspberries, but when we moved up here, we found another one. They ripened this week, so we enjoyed them. They don't look exactly like a regular raspberry, but they taste good, and we only get a few per year. I believe that they are hard to find these days.
Also, I enjoyed a container of good-ingredient mallow fluff. I've never cared about marshmallow fluff much before, but this type is addictive. It's costly, but once or twice a year seems worth it to me. Especially as I'm sans sweet treats that I can buy off of the shelf again. I can't put my finger on it, but this stuff tastes like something that I remember growing up. Again, all I can say is that it's delicious, and addictive. I want to make brownies, or brownie-type cookies, and spread it over the top, though eating it by the spoonful isn't bad at all!
If my blackberries don't turn to blackberry raisins in the heat, I'm thinking of making blackberry popsicles from some of them. They are generally ripe in August, and are looking good currently.
I have sooo much to do right now, from making a new waterer for the chickens, getting the water run over 2-3 days time, and soaking new seeds, to re-doing where my kitchen appliances and smaller items go. I found that my spice grinder is in the way, for example. But, in this heat, I only have a little time each day to do them in. I guess that if I keep moving forward, even one or two things a day, it will add up.
The hummers are back to not eating during the hottest part of the day, and the frogs are back to hanging around in the vegetables to keep cool. Everyone is feeling the heat.
Even the kids. On Thursday, ddil wanted to spend a couple of hours at the river for her birthday. But, even though Ds got a good sunscreen, they both burned. (Thyri was at nursery school. They wouldn't have gone is she hadn't been, I understand.)
Well, with being short on gas I need to keep this short, as I won't have internet access once the electricity is off.
I hope that you had a good week!
