There was a 7.2 earthquake off of Alaska, which is what started it.
Oddly, because it should be impossible, I think that I felt the quake. We were getting ready to go back to bed after getting up with the dogs, and I asked Dh if the cat was scratching. No one seemed to be moving, but we assumed that Uhura had to have been. When I looked at the quake time, that was right about the time that I felt it.
I think that the reason that they gave that amount of miles around our town is because we are 40 miles from the ocean only. Not to say that it couldn't happen here, but tsunami's are not historically in our town. We are too far, and there are mountains/hills between us and Ft. Bragg etc.? I hope so!
But, tsunami's have affected the coast near us, and all the way up to Crescent City. There, you can see these giant, cement thingys, they look like jacks from the show Land of the Giants. When they had a tsunami there, the 'jacks' were thrown inland, and there they lie. It looks like a giant was playing jacks, and they were left there. So, Ft. Bragg, Gualala, and all the places west of me, would be in danger. (Gualala: Wah - as in the sound in the word 'walk', lah lah, as in the sound in the word 'log.')
So, they are keeping an eye on a volcano in Alaska, and hopefully, for everyone in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and N. California's sake, nothing comes of it.
Thank you for thinking of us.
The day is already gearing up to be day 2 of this excessive heat, we certainly didn't need a tsunami on top of it! It's 11, and already nearly 100. That doesn't bode well for the temps today.
