I've had a long night, which I'll post on after this, so thought that I'd give a Hira update. I think that I mentioned that she will hold her tail up now? She never did, but now she trots along and plays with it up. And, brand new as of this week, she wags it! Since Monday, she really wags when things are going her way, lol! She also doesn't look as serious as she did before. I think that she Belgian, so she will probably always be serious, but now she can relax her expression a little when she's happy. It doesn't sound like much, but is quite a difference. Her fur is continuing to improve - a lot, but she's still single-coated. She probably always will be. She's continuing to improve her sitting and waiting skills, and housebreaking has gone perfectly. I'd be surprised if there was an accident. She's got a bit of a stubborn streak, which doesn't surprise me at all. Unfortunately, she sometimes cringes still. It happens randomly, and when nothing is going on that we can see to cause it. Oh, and she's just about perfect on using the restroom on cue now. Even when she doesn't really think that she has to go, she will go a little if she hears the word. That's super nice since all of my dogs, for decades, have. It's great when it's cold and rainy especially. Krypto was taught, from 3 months old, to lie down and chew on either his antler or Nylabone after a meal. I did that because I don't want him running around or playing after eating. But, Hira didn't have that experience, and Krypto wanted to play once she got here. So, I've been working hard to make chewing quietly on the couch, or on a dog mat, an after meal habit for her, and him again. Finally, it's 'taking' and they lie quietly to chew after eating. Hira is smart in her own right, and has discovered things, such as the best place to sit when we're having a training session, especially with treats involved, and that it's worth it to come when called. She's also learning not to go out of the door (the one with the small fenced area. I'm pleased with her progress, but wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.) when it's left open a little, etc. She's still lean, but has put on a good amount of weight so far. She was too, too thin before. She barely chews on herself anymore. It could have been the poor condition of her fur and skin previously, or the food that she was on before coming here, but I'm positive that part of it was stress. She does get tired of Krypto sometimes, he's a bit of a pest, but overall, she has become attached to him in many ways. If he leaves the room, she usually follows. If he wants to play, she plays. (They are both getting in better condition every day from wrestling each day.) And, she watches him for cues about being alert to particular things, food, etc. Well, that's about it, I think. As a side note, please wish the kittens that Ds and family raised good luck. They were only fostering them until older, for the HS, it turns out. They go to the HS today. I hope that they find good homes quickly. Have a great day! |
