11 teams with 3 or fewer wins.
Only new orleans(-19)- who already dumped Dennis Allen. Has a negative point differential better than minus 37. That would be the Jets (-37) that was the 1st team of the year to fire their HC.
PH was the 1st person I heard mention it. Florio has since turned it into his HC hiring mantra.
When a team hires a new HC. In this era of offense, everybody wanting a young QB. It only makes sense to hire an Offense minded HC. Not a defensive guru. So your young QB has stability of scheme to grow into his best self
Of those 11 teams. Only a couple are run by 1st year hc's. Most are near or at the end of contracts.
There's only so many offense minded guys to go around. Only so many fired in previous cycle that will get a serious look. Mike Vrabel comes to mind. Maybe Grampa Belichick? Robert Saleh? Pete Carroll? But they're all defensive guys.
Which leads me to my point. Which Viking coach is in danger of being vultured? Brian Flores? Or Wes Phillips? Both?
How many teams will holdout as long as possible in the hope of signing lions OC Ben Johnson?
Is the Chiefs Matt Nagy the next hottest commodity? Ravens Todd Monken? Kellen Moore?
Somebody from college? The Ducks Will Stein?
Maybe it's Mike McVay. Son of rams hc & current OC?
It's going to be an interesting hiring cycle. It feels the most qualified guys available are defensive minds. If it were my team, I'd want Vrabel. Or UCLA OC Eric Bienemy.
The Jets? They should hire either Belichick or Deion Sanders. The 2 guys with enough juice to shut down Woody Johnson. The guy that continues to sabotage the Jets chances with his smartest guy in the room syndrome never challenged.
