Facing down Frankenstein. It was a myth. Like the Mary Shelley story. There are many versions. All ending the same. The Viking Myth of showing up in post season. It too always ends the same. Not with a bang. Nor a feel good ending. Instead. Crushed under the crumbling castle. Burnt to the ground by the torch & pitchfork crowd. Ya know, when I lived in oregon i had a pitchfork and a garden scythe. Weed control for a choking coastal vine called Salal(sp?). I left them in the garage for the new owners when I sold the house. How was I 'sposed to know? The tools were actually intended for life as a viking fan. I could have sanded the handles. Sprayed a deep plum laquer coating. A deep dark hue. Used some naval jelly to clean the rusty metal. Coated that metal with shiny layers of rustoleum faux Gold Plating. Mounted the tools on a shield, creating a vikings coat of arms. Pitchfork & Scythe over a wooden shield adorned with a sinking longboat. A reminder always of the coming inevitable failure that follows the promise of every wonderous & promising fall slate. Collectively. I think were getting close to not getting sucked in to the myth of post season glory. I started many a time this season. To post something concerning the coming collapse. I erased them all. I think there were 4. Every week of that long road schedule through the afc south & chicago. I chose to stay silent instead of being debbie downer. Chose to stay upbeat. Chose to not say what I think we all knew was happening. They trying to suck us into believing. Cue that Journey song, eh. Back in the late 70's, when that album came out. Every girl I knew had that tape in her car. Steve Perry's castrati vocals grated on my nerves then. Blech. Its now as cliche as neil diamonds caroline. Nope- not songs for viking fan! This one is our anthem. ?feature=shared Rusting Crowns in a snowdrift. Such a fitting visual! |
