Rob Manfried has stated, mlb wans to add 2 teams. Bringing the league back to 32. Front runners, salt lake city, portland or. San Jose ca. & Vancouver BC. Utah is working its stadium package through state legistlature with $900m in resident taxes. Same old boondoggle. Citizens pay for the venue- for the privilege of buying $200 tic and $20 beer. Portland is working its $800m funding package through its state legistlature with a new & unique approach. A 30yr bond paid for with an income tax levy on players & staff of home & visiting teams. Now im sure many mlb employees will cry about it. Except- it makes complete sense. A greed tax. Isnt that an idea whos time has come! I for one love the plan. In Arizona- Chase field, home of the d-backs purportedly needs $1b in backlogged repairs. The d-backs say theyre willing to pitch in $250m. But want az residents to pay for the remaining $750m. The bill has stalled as state lawmakers are only willing to pay up in a 50/50 split equation. The time has come. Portland opened a can of worms that has me thinking, "why didnt anyone think if this before". All of these leagues have a new windfall revenue stream via legalized gambling. It lead to a bump in player salaries as well as ownership revenue. Theres another whose time has come. Tax the sportsbooks as well as the team employees. At all venues. Create a general fund for stadium projects/ maintenance. Ding-ding-ding... we have a winner johnny! Some old fart retiree living in a trailer outside lake Havasu should not be FORCED to subsidize billionaire owners & millionaire players. I mean, wth do I care. Idaho wont get a sports franchise in my lifetime. What do i care about who pays for these stadiums. Except- fair is fair. Doing the right thing- its been long absent from the professional sports biz model. Its actually become quite the opposite. Ownership always looking for ways to squeeze another dime from the fans- at the same time revenue streams and player salaries are breaking records every year. I know, right now in our lives. We all have bigger worries. Still. I think PDX is on to something! |
