I think its probably easiest, of the 4 major sports, to buy a NBA championship. 5 stars? 6? Probably, nfl is the hardest. Maybe MLB, bc every contract is fully guaranteed. And buying 6 studs isnt close to a guarantee. In MLB, at minimum you need 3 pitchers. 2 starter studs & a lights out closer. Plus a lineup with the right mix of defense & run production. Add in- a 25 man roster is quite a few egos to manage. Hockey & football come with high injury exposure by nature. Thats not to minimize the injury occurance in the other leagues. All of it is so exposed to injury and only becoming moreso. For my money. Id rather watch Curling & rugby. Neither are as visbly corrupted by cash. Yet. The best thing about curling. Men & women are pretty much equal. The rules are the same. The playing fields interchangeable. Last week i watched the world championships. Canada & Switzerland in the finals. Great championship tournament resulted. Full of drama and precision athletes performing in top form. Curling was one of the most popular sports in the past few olympics. Why dont we have leagues yet? They televise chase tag for petes sake! Its not like curling requires some fatastic athletic ability. It does require practice. Lots of practice. I watched poker for a while. Meh. Its okay. Some "events" only work if you participate. Bowling, cards, golf, tag, lego's. Watching them gets too repetitive. Like nascar. Seen 1 left hand turn, youve seen em all. Put thise cars on a street. Let competitors cary a 5 shot revolver. Then maybe we have watchable sport. In leau of gunfire Knife spokes like chariot racing of roman film fame? Or. Maybe just zero pit stops and bald (maypop) tires at the get go. Allow the bottom ranked drivers to chose cars 1st- kinda like nfl draft.. Now theres a sport where money buys chamionships! Mostly im playing around here. Much a joke. Except for curling. Oh yeah. I like curling. If we can stomach soccer, basketball & baseball? I think curling would be a succesful league. Especially if some financial limitations are put in place from the start. Its an old heroin playbook, eh. 1st ones free man. As popularity grows, revenue, profits, salaries soar. Networks pay too much of their budgets on sports & pretty soon the nightly news is no longer newsworthy. As well- you cant afford/ cant reconcile the cost to attend. |
