I don't think that's happening. Not after JJM put forth a pair of back to back quality performances.
Last week vs the Commanders was a baby step. A young QB that did a good job of being a game manager, At home vs the worst D in football. Then, last night on SNF, the kid took another step forward. The Dallas D won't be confused with the Bronco or Texans defense, however. The Dallas defense had been playing respectably for a few weeks.
A huge difference in all of this. JJM's first 5 games vs his last 2 starts has been the coach keeping the offense balanced. Prior to the Vikings final possession, the victory formation game ending sequence. The Viking offense had 23 pass attempts and 20 rush attempts. As well, the offense backed up the defense with 4 th qtr scoring drives.
Truly, Flores and his defense are just as big a story here, vs the #1 offense in the league. As is the Viking offense outscoring the Dak driven juggernaut. It was a helluva road win vs a team believing in its playoff chances coming in.
I wasn't sure until this week. Who it is JJM reminds me of. It dawned on me Thursday night. JJM reminds me of Baker Mayfield. Prior to tnf, the kid was reminding me of Zach Wilson. And let's face it. When Baker got ran out of Cleveland. He was momentarily, the original Zach Wilson.
It could become a very apt comparison as McCarthys career unfolds. Baker gets hurt a lot. Toughs through many an injury. But when healthy? Baker has at times looked great! Who wouldn't want "good" Baker qbing their team? Injured Baker? Egaads! On tnf he looked like McCarthy in the 2nd bears game. I think the 2 have similar skill sets. And eventually, JJM will grow a man body into his 6-3 frame.
There's still going to be some clunkers ahead for JJM. & Idk that he'll ever put up an 18 week MVP type season. That said, he's now shown enough in the last 2 weeks to reclaim the mantel as Mn. Vikings Franchise QB.
As a result. Should Joe Burrow pop up on the trade market. You can count the Vikings, wisely or not, as one of the few uninterested.
Perhaps? An unintended result in this process. KOC may have learned a huge lesson this season that pays dividends for many years. You have to run the ball effectively to be able to pass the ball excellently.
Oh, a related side note. The play fake McCarthy made on the goal line naked bootleg was one of the greatest fakes I've ever witnessed. The tape of that play should be taught to HS qb's for the next however many years football is still played.
It was a great design run to 100% perfection!
Double fake! 1. Quick hitter to fb. 2. The 4 hole to the rb. Full pirouette by the QB. Great footwork by all involved. 1 misstep by any of 5 players there and JJM is a fish flopping on the turf. Football Ballet! That was a self scout gold medal!
