That contains the guaranteeing of another $19.5m (2027 bonus)on the 1st?day of the 2026 league year.
Thats how it was listed last month.
I guess its been updated? Or i mistead it?
Bc it now says:
$19.5M 2027 salary fully guarantees the 5th league day of 2026.
That 2nd $19.5m in guarantees was why I didnt think Murray would come available.
Eating $37m over 2 seasons is tough enough for the cheapski Bidwell clan. $56m over 2 season?
I didnt see that happening... I also thought that was a big part of Jonathan Gannon being bounced while being owed an additional $8m on top of whatever would become the kyler murray result.
It felt to me. That the bidwells would offer something around $35-$40m towards murrays contract with a new team, and that new team would work a trade & extension deal.
The difference in all of this. Is the 1st day of league year language vs 5th day.
Now as it stands, yes. He'll be a free agent.
You can bet, if you want him in for your off season program. Some portion of that $19.5m he signed up for is the carrot that gets the pony into your building. He can sit at home with his $36.8. Play video games, put his lil black book on speed dial and enjoy the summer... Eventually. The phone will ring & the $1.36m can land in his bank account come september.
It actually about $73k per week for the 18 week schedule. $1.36m - 3.5% ( agents cut) ÷ 18.
That how contracts are paid in the nfl.
You want him before week 1? Workout bonus baby... Roster bonus... Or- Per Rod Tidwell, "Show me the money Jerry!"
The negotiations begins at this number-
$19,500,000.00 ...
It's anybody's guess as to the compromise. If i were trying to sign him. Id tie the missing 19.5 to a 2nd year team option. Ie... We'll give you $5.5m to sign now & be part of the 2026 team activities- with a $10.5m(salary) team option for 2027 & $3.5m roster bonus on or about day 5 of 2027 league year start.
In other words. His full $19.5m is made whole if he plays to that value in 2026.
If he sleepwalks thru 2026. He's a free agent at the start of 2027.
$20m for 2 years of a average starting qb is a bargain. The 2nd year option could include some escaltion in $ tied to on field play.
However they work any deal. With any fa qb.
Dont repeat the mistakes made with Darnold/Jones.
Write in some type of team option for a 2nd year.
