Myself. I think it was early 1998 I 1st went on the internet. The kids had a early gateway i had gotten for them. I think that was in 96. It wasnt powerful enough to run windows '95. So it ran on cello. And i used it to teach them "basic" "fortran" & "Cobol". But we werent on the internet. In 97 aol offered mainstream dialup. We hooked up the clunky gateway. It just stalled.
Christmas that year i bought them a windows 95 desktop. For the life of me I cant remember the brand. It wasnt 6 months later i bought the windows 98 disc. And that was a big difference.

I wanted my kids computer literate agead of the pack. My goal was to steer all 3 into enflgineering- and being computer literate was going to be a big part of that. We upgraded that cimputer, adding memory busses, and later a gaming chip. They were pretty good lil computer tachnicians before they could drive.
The downside. Instead of spending their time becomming math prodigys. They all went mad with gaming. Tomb raider and another game i dont recall.

In the end, it did workout. All 3 boys are now engineers.... Unfortunately, AI is coming for their jobs too. I have to admit. I did not see AI coming. Not back then. Had I known. I woulda raised a plumber, a welder and an electrician.

A side note. I tried to raise all 3 to be a shortstop. Not a 1 liked sports. Preferred band.
Ironic, considering now in my old age. I wish i had soent all those hours tossing a ball- studying instead the Violin, accordion, piano or classical guitar. Theres no skill i am more envious of now than a bad ass fiddler.
