From Chief Gillane:
1. The Chief spoke to Crowder Gulf which is the company contracted with to remove our heavy trash and storm debris. They will have the trucks stop by city hall on Tuesday to register around 3:00 pm and will begin heavy trash pick up around 4:30 pm. They will have 2 trucks in operation; 1 will begin on Dolphin the other will begin on Blue Heron. The trucks will run through Wednesday. Heavy trash will be evaluated after Wednesday to determine if there is a need for additional pick up of storm and construction debris.
2. According to what the FEMA paperwork states, the trash cannot be in trash bags, cans or bins as they must be able to "see" what they are picking up.
3. If you have already bagged your sheetrock etc and cannot dump it out, the regular trash people will pick it up at a later date, once all the household trash has been cleared from the neighborhood.
4. Regular trash is running today and has already been seen in the neighborhood. Use of additional trucks working has been requested.
5. It is recommended by Crowder Gulf that white goods, which includes refrigerators, freezers, a/c units, washers and dryers be allowed to be picked up by the scrappers so that there is less waste fir the trucks/landfills and also to avoid them dealing freon issues.
6. If any of the scrappers and junk collectors go beyond the line of your trash and enter your property without your permission please call 911. This is a service the city pays for and allows for a tracking of calls made for issues in the community. IF you call and a response to your property is not made within a timely manner, please call the Ciyy of Bayou Vista dispatch so that follow up can be made and inquiries can be directed to the county dispatch for failure to forward.
7. Regarding hazardous materials which includes solvents, paint, oil, etc, they will not be picked up by Crowder Gulf. While the Chief has reached out to Texas City to see if they will allow our citizens to bring to their facility for disposal he has not yet received approval. Liquids such as paint can be solidified by the addition of kitty litter to prevent seepage of the product into the landfills.
8. Access through the Sailfish gate will begin today with usual closing times being in place.
