It's never too late to get a degree, Jerry, you could always try for one with the Open University, in a subject of your choosing, as they are really brilliant for anyone who feels that they missed out in their early life due to work or family commitments, (or money).
Although I have always been involved either in the engineering or electronics industries, when I was of school leaving age, I wanted to work out in the field as a geologist or archaeologist, but didn't have the qualifications necessary to go to university.
As I got near retirement age, I decided to give it a go, and enrolled with the OU to see if I still had it in me to study. It took about 8 years of part-time study, mostly in the evenings, until I received a BSc in 2010, and a BSc (Hons) the following year in Earth Science. It had nothing to do with my working environment.
So there's life in the old dogs yet!!
