shocking how primitive some houses were well into the 1970s.
about 1973/4 when I lived in Sth London council was tarting the area up with trees and BS, at one meeting a bloke stood up and said "never mind trees, can we get water in our house?" turned out his rented house had ONE water tap between each pair pf house and outside at that.
Peabody buildings in London with sight of Buck house had one shared cold water tap on each landing.
My first house had outside loo in 1970. Not uncommon then.

Lots of improvements in house since as newcomers won't put up with such basics.
