I use the pump payment at the Tesco mainly due to so many people buying food and drinks and a long queue to get the payment made. I do prefer the tills at the shops though and never use the self service section. I often use petrol stations with kiosk only payment but always go into ones with hardly any cars on the forecourt so i can avoid the coffee and toilet paper buyers.
Tesco now grab £120 on the card although it never shows up on the statements.
Lucky for me, i use Santander Edge account and there is a Branch in Town with real people. Previously used Barclays for 40 years but they were going downhill so swapped over to the bank that pays me to leave money in my account and gives me money back on direct debits. Most banks in Exmouth closed about 10 years ago.
