I drink with a train driver and even he can't believe how much he gets paid. Tells me it is the cushiest job he has ever had.
A couple of years ago I followed a couple of railway workers along the platform at Brighton station. One said to his mate that he would be retiring soon after 17 years and hadn't yet done a proper day's work.
