Stay warm without the fuel payment

I have a plan. In Tesco, there is a row of seats inside so when the heating comes on for Winter, sit inside for a few hours. Then look into the local museum before getting on a bus with bus pass and have a 20 mile journey with the heater on. Then into a heated pub and get people to buy beer for the poor pensioners, then return home and get in bed.

.... And when the locals get tired of buying beer for the poor pensioner, he could just pop down to the Mediterranean or Caribbean on a cruise ship and lay out in the sun for a month or two...!

Hopefully Lannis. I dont drink though so not likely to go in a pub. Yes, i go to the Caribbean for 35 days in January again. Bought a new mask with a new style snorkel that attaches to the screen. The unit covers all the face so its much better in use.
Its funny to listen to all the pros and cons of this free money as they remind us we will get another 400 pounds a year next April less tax of course. I did find it surprising i got all these payments last year when there are more deserving basic pension people finding it hard so maybe its a right decision to means test it. I am fortunate to have excellent insulation to keep the heat in the house but the attached house next door puts heating on at 6am and it warms the dividing wall so no need to use mine much. Come downstairs on a frosty Morning with no heating on and it will be 17C so i add 2C with one hour of the boiler and that is enough until Evening time and add another 2 hours.
I hope my Neighbour never moves away as i appreciate his heating gift

We lived in an apartment when we were first married which was directly above a 90 year old lady who kept her apartment as hot as a sauna in the winter. We never had to turn on our heat.... It came up through the floor and kept us toasty warm!

The removal of the £300 heating allowance for pensioners is obviously a highly controversial topic today. However it occurs to me that I do not know one OAP who will miss the £300. I wonder if it will affect on anybody that you actually know, or indeed anybody on here?

I dont think too many will miss it. The ones who could get pension credits but have not claimed this benefit should be targeted by the DWP to make sure they have the money they are entitled too. Not sure why these people have been left without knowing they can claim the credits. This Morning, the News was saying pensioners get over £200 with the credit but not sure if the partner of those also get £200 and £400 a week is not bad at this older age.
I am dropping a lot of my savings down now as my Children and Grandchildren can use it. Grandaughter moves into her first flat this week so furnishing it out for her buying furniture from British heart foundation warehouse so that is also helpful to the charity.
I have 17 Grandchildren and another one comes this year. Some need help and others are doing well anyway. It is pleasing to assist the younger family.

I am still outraged by the manner in which it had been done. Just thing it will take 30 years for one pensioners £300 to pay for wage increase given to a train driver. Oh yes and as usual with politicians that Starmer and his lot claimed in the run up to the election that stopping the allowance was what the other lot intended, and that they would NOT stop it. Liars all of them.

Which leads me to ask the question that I have posed to many since the election...who actually voted for this lot, anybody here?

Not me, I voted for Nigel Farage's wishy-washy limp-wristed Reform party, but only because there wasn't a decent properly narrow-minded right wing party running.

Votes for Farages party played a significant part in getting The Starmer Gang elected. All the Farage votes were wasted votes as they allowed the gang to win. Tactical voting is OK for any mid term by elections and local elections but in a general election..........well you have seen the result.

I don't think they were wasted votes if the lot in now take notice of what voters want. France is about to get a far right party in and Germany has one and it's the first since Hitler came into power. Will the new lot take any notice?? No of course they won't.

Have to disagree Jerry. It was wasted for two reasons. Firstly Farage's party were never going to get either a majority or hold the balance of power. Secondly the majority of those who voted for Farages lot were traditional Tory voters, and this coupled with the first reason became a de facto vote for Starmers Clowns. The current lot have no need to worry about what the electorate want, as they have clearly demonstrated this week, due to their massive majority. There is nothing that the general public can do for another five years of a government with trade union paymasters. Sad and bad in equal measures, but that is the reality.

It is surprising what Railway employees get paid. One of my Sons works for them and 2 of his Sons plus a Nephew. They do very well

I drink with a train driver and even he can't believe how much he gets paid. If he does the very early shift he gets picked up from home by a taxi. Tells me it is the cushiest job he has ever had.

A couple of years ago I followed a couple of railway workers along the platform at Brighton station. One said to his mate that he would be retiring soon after 17 years and hadn't yet done a proper day's work.

Don't worry me, all my heating comes from my wood burner, I just cut down two trees every winter for logs. I like to be Green.

I live in a city where the temperature seldom drops to 6C for a few days in mid-winter, and motorcyclists ride all year round.
