I've fitted progressive springs to many bikes over the years. All needed spacers above them and none made any noticeable difference.

I concluded that if I ever fit them again I'll have to wear my Emperor's New Suit whilst doing so. They remind me of those lead balls in Spitfire fuel tanks that won the Battle of Britain.
