The TAVI is a device that is inserted into the Aortic valve to repair it. Statistically it is far more successful on women than on men. It is inserted with a ballon catheter inserted into the Aota at a point in the groin. It is a spring mesh device with animal material attached. It has a number of benefits.

(1) It avoids the need to cut the chest open like they did to me

(2) The op takes around two hours rather than six or seven for the chest opening procedure.

(3) Hospital residency is usually 2 or 3 days rather than 7 to 10.

(4) The procedure is carried out I pendent local anaesthetic.
