DVLA

Those in Exmouth thinking they could park up with no road tax have had a surprise visit from an ANPR van and there are cars all over the housing estates and side roads with clamps and a sign saying no road tax. Many have now parked fully on the pavement and grass verges so they are not in contact with the road.
Costly here not to pay road tax like most of us do.
This area gets targetted about once a year with a van load of clamps.

Many have now parked fully on the pavement and grass verges so they are not in contact with the road.

Around here that would get them a fine from the Council, who are having a purge on pavement parking.

If the ones parked on the verges and grass areas are used I would be surprised if they were SORNed and so should have been taxed wherever they were. So the notice would still apply.
A lot of dishonest people down your way it seems to me.

Most are on the Council estates but just a few are in the posh Avenues near the beach.
There are about 50 waste tankers down by the beach sewage treatment works. The beach was toxic last weekend after a major leak so they are running the shit tankers. I expect they will empty it into the rivers and hope no one notices it. Water supplier is getting many fines for its incompetence lately.

Pavement parking is totally ignored here by police who say its a Council problem so a lot of people park there and pedestrians walk along the centre of the road and move if a car comes along. I suppose its the poorest people who cannot tax cars due to the money they spend on takeaways and phones. Another Turkish eating place has appeared in town. About 40 takeaways now and 6 Turkish barbers. No need to go abroad for food.

When I was helping out a neighbour who has a taxi business I picked up a couple of chaps at the railway station who had purchased a DVLA franchise to check on and fix penalty notices on untaxed vehicles on a commission basis. I took them to a motel where they said they'll sleep all day and walk the streets at night after everyone was home from work.

They do quite well down here with parking fines too. Some park overnight on double yellows in Town so they appointed someone to ticket them at 7.30 am. Some were getting tickets many times a week.
There are many more cars than spaces here as some houses have 4 cars but living in terrace houses without any parking space. I am lucky i can park 2 cars by the house with the garage. All the other houses have no garage at all so keep driving around looking for that elusive parking spot.

Geoff, if you ever think of going back to work apply to the Anti- Tourist board. You are doing a great job in persuading the visitors not to come already, and not getting paid for it.

When I bought our Bungalow the main thing there had to be a large garage we did visit other properties but this was just right have driveway to two other properties all have garages.

A bit like parking on junctions around here, one place in particular there is a van always parked right on a junction, it is a hazard as you have to slowly edge out to see what is comming.

Non one seems to give a toss anymore.

In the nearest town, Malvern, we have 2 Turkish & one Kurdish barber, plus 4 nail bars, 3 of which are staffed by Vietnamese.
Both the local 'hand car wash' & a Chinese restaurant have recently been raided by Custom & Excise, backed up by the police. Various visa & modern slavery offences, apparently.

The Turkish barbers do very little work and rumoured to be the drug money launderers. Last week, a woman in Exmouth was found with a large cannabis grow in her rented house. The Landlord also lived in the house and paid for the electricity charges. In the house was £20,000 of cannabis and for her own use so suspended sentence and the landlord had very little sentence, more just a slap so they continue with sales at another house. There are a lot of drugs around here coming from Manchester on route to Cornwall and quite a bit going the other way. Many have been caught in a recent sting and jailed. It might explain why there are about 6 Ferrari's being driven around here plus a few other supercars including a Mc Laren.
This is a bit of a sleepy town so good to hide away in. Just a few years ago, an entire warehouse was used for a massive grow with a Thai gardener looking after it. They closed the police station so no police for 10 miles.

The one in my village with foreign workers (very good ones in fact) has just reopened after several operators. After a raid by Border Force the penultimate one who had two sites and is now doing time in Lewes prison for people smuggling.
After more than three years the scrawled sign on a cornflakes box has been removed by the new guy:
'Cash only.
Card machine broken'
