Not only did they tarmac around cars the covered the manhole covers so they can't be found..
This is in Exeter..

Tar spraying around the parked cars is getting common. They put up signs to warn drivers not to park but often cars can be left unused for a week.
Yesterday, a road sweeping truck drove up the centre of the road as cars were parked both sides. No sweeping the edges as he could not get to it. Lifted the brushes and just drove through to another road clogged with cars. Exton, they have put new white lines down at the traffic lights. They had to paint a line down into a 3 inch deep pothole now i suppose someone may fill the pothole so the line man has to come back again.

In my road, the pavement and road have not been resurfaced for near 40 years. However, every few years a team comes and sprays black tar along the edges of the road then put down the yellow lines. A five year cycle for this work so they can ticket cars. Lovely surface if you could just ride the lines as that is the only smooth surface on this road now. During this work, one year they blacked out the white H marking the visibility splay for my garage and told me it was an unauthorised marking. In actual fact, it was part of the £1500 charge for the drop kerb. After they blacked it out, i re-painted it with masonry paint. Odd these Councils have no idea or records of jobs they do.

Budliegh Salterton is known locally as Gods waiting room. It has a lot of over 90s living there. Sea air keeps them going but they also need a lot of money for private hospitals.

Used to be top quality cars parked up in Budleigh Salterton but now just the usual
There's a little estate behind me it's owned by the council So the had it sprayed with new Tarmac plus the pavements and it took over a week to dry

Den, i did put a sign up on the gateway into Exmouth saying it was closed to Grockles a few years back.
It is very busy around here mainly due to Sandy Bay holiday park being the biggest caravan site in the UK and that has been here about 70 years i would think. I worked there 50 years ago for a bit.
Population has doubled but none of the services have been made bigger to cover the extra people.
They closed the new cop shop 5 years ago now they want to knock it down and build a new one but bats have got in so they cant do it. The 18 year old lifeboat station, built with a ramp that was too short and required rebuilding, now has its roof off due to the aluminium fixings rotting. The new houses going up now are just too many for the Schools so pupils may have to travel by bus to Exeter.
Meanwhile, the Gay and drugs scene are doing very well and there are lots of Gay parties in Town now. For some reason, someone thought it was a good idea to put a Twin towers memorial in our local play park and the Geoneedle on the cliff opened by Prince Charles back then, had the name of Nelsons wife mixed up with his Mistress so wron g name carved into the needle which is very high and tall and expensive to replace one of the large rocks with the script on. I suggested some duct tape over it then write the correct name with a permanent marker.
Nelson would have given his right arm to see it.
The sewage plant has failed and the sea has turned brown and 50 tankers are moving the crap into someone elses River.
The good thing is, we have a good supermarket and thats about it.

So Geoff and Dave, can we assume that the south west is both inhabited and managed by complete effin idiots?

Seriously Geoff double yellow lines so that they can issue tickets? NO the double yellow lines are to tell the local effin idiots, sorry population, that parking is not permitted. If they decide to ignore the yellows then they deserve to be ticketed.

Frankly I do not understand why you haven't moved out of there years ago as these problems appear to have been there for many years or even decades. I certainly would not live in such an area.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

But i have 2 parking spaces at my house and no other house has this in the road. As the lines get worn, the man who arrives each day at 8am in a van finds if the yellow lines are not unbroken, he cannot ticket them so many just park on the broken lines. It makes a big difference when they repaint and the cars move elsewhere.
Its nice here, i can sea the sea, shops just 200 metres away and i can park every day. No flooding ever. Town centre area is where i have always lived and 41 years so far in this house. No drunks lately coming home as the locals seem to have stopped drinking at the town pubs.
A couple of neighbours always park on the yellows and hope they get up before the ticket man comes. Many times, the same cars get the tickets.

I moved to Devon because London was becoming a right Shithole and obviously I was right Devon is a lovely place its the towns that are going to pot I moved from Dartmoor as the local town was growing over 4 thousand houses have been built so the new hospital and health center plus Dentist can't cope. The village I live in is only 4miles from Hospital and the surgery is for me a ten min walk I live at the top of the hill so don't get flooded.. I don't go to Exeter because that has been spoiled there ar now more eateries than shops thats the grockles living here..
We are no worse than anywhere else My kids were two years behind at school when we moved here now they are at the top of their professions
It's just now today's people or businesses can't do simple jobs half the mechanics at my sons firm don't know how to tune a carburettor and that's the truth.

Its sad that they are not taught the basics, but then these days how often does a mechanic need to know about carbs? Unless they are specifically trained to work on old vehicles that knowledge just isn't required any more. For the mainstream carbs are out of date technology much like steam power!

When did FI become mandatory on new cars? 1993, apparently. The average car workshop probably doesn't see many pre-1993 cars.

Thing is now even on the modern cars that the company deals with so called mechanics are bl---y useless by Grahams standard he says they can't even get brake calipers of without breaking a stud then don't know how to remove they are OK with a computer ..apparently it's like it in the motor trade..

I find with new cars that short term, they mostly run without fault, however, when they do get one of these electronic faults, none of the garages i bought from could do a repair. Nissan called out the RAC van after 5 attempts at fixing it. BMW spent 5 days with the car trying to fix a failed radio. Renault was a leaking water problem and it went back still leaking water after 3 years.
By far the best quality was Vauxhall and Volvo with no faults at all.
My boy solves a few electronic problems at his garage but can also call on a local electronic car fault wizard.

Our brand new 2024 Subaru with 400 miles on it has been in the shop almost 4 weeks. Road damage repair from a traffic cone falling off a truck and impaling the grill and the air conditioning condenser.

The part it needs has been on backorder from Subaru for 3 weeks.

The problem is that the people responsible are still blaming "supply chain issues" from the artificial Wu-Flu hysteria of four years ago.

The real issue is that they cut back on competent staff and have never come back up to full staffing, preferring to hire a few shaved apes and call piss-poor levels of service "the new normal" and expect us to accept it.
