Into the dunkelflaute

The dunkelflaute seems to have lifted a bit so off out on the Him for a bimble.

Had enough of working on the KH - ready to take the engine out of the frame so making good progress.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Weather has been breathtakingly beautiful here for the past couple of weeks. I've been doing a lot of necessary running around in support of election activities - taping and chalking the "No campaigning past this line" marks around polling places, visiting polling places to carry extra materials to them (voting hit record participation levels this cycle), and like that, and was able to do it all in a roadster or on a motorcycle, and thus mix business with pleasure.

No riding or fettling today, though - I got all three chainsaws cleaned, sharpened, tuned, and lubed yesterday, and it's time to clear the downed trees that are across our walking and riding trails from the summer storms we had this year....

Not due to clear up here until Monday - same heavy dull overcast with no wind as the last week or more. Supposed to be sunny then, but not warm (single digits) - then again it is November & I am usually packed away for my Winter hibernation by now.

Sunny on Monday is nice, as I have to take my Him in for some warranty work first thing Monday morning. Got to leave the bike, so probably take a demo out for a couple of hours - maybe try the new 450 Him or maybe risk a Chinese bike (dealer handles Voge, Benelli, CF Moto - basically anything Moto GB sells as they are part of Moto GB). Don't think they have a Guerilla 450 (stupid name) on demo, but not sure if that is actually of interest - struck me as "under tanked (only 11 litres) and over tyred" when I saw the launch.

Went out on the Duke for a couple of hours via the burger van and the coffee stop. Bitterly cold though. Thankfully this wimp has heated grips.

Just been out on my newly acquired CB350 after giving it a full inspection and full service. Running lovely but bloody hell its so miserable out there being dull and overcast. Never thought I would get out on a bike and come back feeling down. Hope tomorrow perks up as out on my Yam XJR1300. As much as I like riding my new classic Honda have to admit I'm still struggling to ride small bikes but sure is easy to get on the centre stand and move around in the garage so does have some nice advantages.

Tell me about it Jerry - about 4 miles into my ride the "dunkelflaute" got worse. I was glad to get home.

Heavy mist came down, as well as a decrease in temperature.

Looks like I mis judged the weather - came back and did a bit more on the KH.

Just 2 more bolts and I can take the engine out, then it is about 1/2 an hour to split the cases so that I can hopefully find out the source of all the noise.

I did notice while I was taking it apart that the shaft that the clutch fits on (called the "input" shaft by Mother Kawasaki) was spinning in the inner part of the bearing, so that may have something doing with it.

Probably be a good idea to replace the shaft - a few NOS ones about on E Bay for not too silly money.

Good luck Andy. I'm at a time in my life know that I just don't enjoy rebuilding bikes . Don't mind general servicing etc.

Hoping this will be my last ever rebuild - think I have said that before.

Like you I just like to ride these days and more than happy to do general servicing.

This rebuild is out of necessity, as no one seemed interested in the KH with the whiney clutch.

Did not even get an offer despite a very by current standards a reasonable asking price, and I am not giving it away.

Should be sorted in time for Spring when it will go up for sale again.

Here it was the best day in what seems like ages. Yes it was still dunkelflaute but at least the roads were dry. So change is on the way. Brighter but colder.

Shock while riding this morning, a mysterious yellow orb in the sky and a pleasant tingling sensation when it rays contacted bare flesh. Only lasted a few minutes but I thought it a novel experience worth mentioning.

Any rebuilds eg, the Ariel, I gave to the specialists. At rebuilding engines, I`m a failure.
