Chilly

- 1.C at eight this morning now plus 1C.
Sunny some cloud
Had to laugh at Ydays weather news that schools and various other things shut down because of a sprinkle of snow.. It's not as if it's never happened I always managed school and workthe worst was 1948 for me in a convalescent home in Bexhill snow was past the topof the downstairs windows so probably nine feet NO trains so Mum couldn't visit for a week..

I do understand schools closing, it's usually because the buses are off. Most school buses are private hire these days and the companies quickly agree amongst themselves not to run country routes. Having worked at a rural school surrounded by steep hills I'd say that's a good call.

Not all schools shut in snow though. I once road my A50 to school, bring pelted with snowballs on the way! And below was the last time I went in in decent snow - a 17 mile ride, all on disused railway path, which I felt was significantly safer than driving. The trains were off too. To be honest the ride was an absolute delight, silent and solitary. As half the staff couldn't get in the school was eventually shut and I had another peaceful ride home. Ten foot ice stalactites in the tunnel. You wouldn't want one of them to drop on you!

It was quite a hard frost in Town at sea level here but all cleared now and sunny. My de-icer spray was a bit useless as most of them these days. Last car had a heated screen but this one does not. Cant have everything i suppose unless i buy another 50,000 pound Volvo.
I like heated screens but found that my eyes could see all the fine element strands in sunlight which was distracting. Today, my car tells me i have lost air in a tyre but no sign of a screw or nail so must check all pressures now

Tyre pressures down due to low temperature? Of course check if its one low tyre, or it maybe all of them if temperature has triggered the warning.

My car is annoying in that it doesn't tell you the pressures or which tyre is low. They're both things my 2 bikes with TPMS do, & makes it easier to tell if its temperature triggered.

Hard frost here as well - killed off the last of the surviving summer bedding plants.

Thermometer was reading -3 it's around +3 now and all the frost has gone.

Who needs a signature anyway......

That was 1962 drove the J type Morris van to Brands hatch for the boxing day meeting from Hounslow Wrest London the around the track to disperse the snow and ice.. then the Racing was cancelled as not enough spectators..

Checked all four tyres and 3 at 32 psi and one at 31.5 psi. I always use my home pump for all tyres so i have a baseline to work from. This time, the car computer readout was exactly as my LCD pump showed. A RHS rear down half a pound.
It is common in frost for water trapped in the edge of the tyre to freeze and let air out. The car was parked out in rain last night so frozen all over it

You must have some fantastic workshop gear in your garage Geoff, I doubt if my pump would show that and if it would my eyesight wouldn't pick it up. Well done, hope it turns the light out now.

If the tyre loses pressure, it does a beep then a tyre symbol in orange that stays on annoying you. Look through all the menus and eventually a plan of the car comes up on the screen showing which tyre it is. Its a good thing as it saves kicking the tyre to check pressures.
My battery powered tyre pump accurate and reading half a PSI at a time as it climbs during pumping.
Cost is near £100 with large battery and charger but it will pump up many tyres on a charge. There is a pump in the car but not as good as mine in the garage. Never used the supplied pumps that come with the car. Too much messing about connecting wires and not much power.
