Anyone get the Message

Both our mobile phones went off with a siren and emergency alert from the government warning about the storm.. first time that's happened

Yes, all 3 of our mobiles went of within about 10 seconds of each other.

For some reason when mine went off a voice read out the contents of the message - a lady with an American accent.

Who needs a signature anyway......

No such message here in the East Midlands. All is peaceful.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

According to the news here, the message was for the people in the path of the storm in Wales.

Bit of a wind all night here but not more than 40mph gusts i would think. In the night, the sky was clear with no cloud at all.

Very gusty here at the moment, was woken up by the noise of the wind.

Fair bit of rain was well.

Really not good at the moment.

A branch off a tree blowing around the garden forcast getting worse until Sunday morning power out just north of Okehampton train service cut
Wind / Gales north east but will turn from the north during the day..

Lost the top 8ft of a tree in the garden. TBH it was dead wood that needed cutting down & I'd been putting off for months.

And both Severn Bridges are shut so the Saesneg are cut off from civilization.

Wind is starting to abate a little here - fewer gusts and less often, but still pretty hefty gusts.

One 3 foot fencing panel has blown out between us and our neighbour, the concrete posts are fine, the panel was very old and not in the best of condition.

Fingers crossed that is all the damage we will suffer, think an afternoon bimble on the Him is not on the cards today.

No they just send out urgent message if danger to life it's only been used once ( yesterday) before that the system was tested a couple of years or so ago..the wind is getting worse now

That is a good question, I have wondered myself who "they" are and now "they" get your number.

Guess it serves to illustrate that someone like "they" can access any mobile phone "they" want to.

They are the Government they take the information from the weather centre then they access the mobile network in those areas ..Just had a message on my phone saying if there is someone near to me that needs help if a power cut they ( the local electricity board ) will come and fita mobile generator.. we did this some years back as loss of power and our 96 year old neighbour needed back up the generator was plugged inwithina hour.. we are first responders tour neighbour..

'They' don't know your number. 'They' use the tower your phone is connected to. When an alert is triggered, all towers in the area will broadcast the alert. To do this 'they' do not need to know the specific location or personal data on your device.

You can opt out of the service and you can keep your tinfoil hat on

Ah, thanks jimmy. I'm not sure if that would work for my 20 yr old Doro PAYG non-Smart (only does texts and calls) mobile phone because I assume that it only connects to the tower when I'm actually making or receiving a text or a call.

I dont get messaged either on my ancient phone with pay as you go. When the 4 minute warning comes, i will lose out on getting the nearest girl to spend 4 minutes with. 2 minutes would be alright for me and 2 minutes to clear up the mess

When I was working a lady colleague asked me "if you get a four minute warning what are you going to do". I answered "not sure it depends on how fast the ladies around here can run"

They send it to all the phone numbers within range of all the phone masts in the region they want to warn. It is sent to all the phone numbers registered to, or used by, all the phone companies.
People can opt out of receiving these warnings by adjusting their phone's notification settings.

It is definatley starting to calm since my last post, turned into a plain old miserable, wet, windy day with just the occasional gust.

Time to venrure out into the garage to do some more work on the KH Expansion chamber cans.

Just had to go outside the put a rock on the garden waste bin lid next doors fence has gone ove the lage oak tree that's next to our drive large branch down and Green Dale shopping the roof blown off the turkey shed plus A3052 to Sidmouth blocked by trees down and that's South East Devon
