Is it just me? O/T

Does anyone else get sick and fed up with people on the TV constantly telling you what you should eat, do, think, or what how they battled and won various things that life has thrown at them?

Most of these people offering advice are so called Celebrities.

There was some bloke banging on about something this morning (cant remember what it was) so I just switched channels - other half came in and asked why I had turned the TV over, when I explained, she got the hump and said I was always complaining about TV.

So is it just me that is fed up with the constant stream of "advice" being given to us via the TV, so called "chat" shows are another one that pi** me off.

Yes I know there is an off button but my other half is a bit of a telly addict so it is hard to avoid.

As for this morning, finished my breakfast and went off out to the cabin to work - out here I just have my work computer and Radio 4 for company.

Who needs a signature anyway......

you should hear me when the adverts are on,especially the 'diverse'ones.

"Celebrity" if ever a word has been overworked and needs banning thats it.

Agree on both counts, I am not allowed to express any opinion at home about anything that is "diverse", both my Daughter and Other half are incredibly PC.

PC of any kind wouldn't fly in my house.

I married a woman who already thought like me, we raised children with good sense, and part of that good sense means controlling what goes into our eyes and ears, therefore no television in our house since 1992.

Especially when our grandchildren are here.

Drop the addiction. Reject the idiot celebrities.

I would say get out on the bike and ride, but you already spend more time fettling, rebuilding, and riding than 95% of us here do, so you've got that going for you, and long may it last!

My other half used to have more or less the same outlook as I do, but over the years she has become very PC / mainstream.

That's unusual. Usually you get more and more alike as you live together for a long time ...

But, hey, good on yer if you've found a way to cope in peace (or if not peace, then not smothering the other with a pillow.)

Best ones are when it's cold and the man on the radio gives a government warning that we should put extra warm clothes on. Glad they told me because last time it was cold I was bloody freezing. Thank you UK government for looking after me.

Well the BBC has gone to pot the news is repetitive yesterday lunchtime news kept on about the poor young girl that was torchered buy her father? Mother ? Then that was weaved into other stories and adverts for their own programs they we get ten mins of local news then back to main news again.
Als get fed up with 75% coloured people now on TV and tarts in adverts revealing more body parts one advert even shows a female shaving her pubes and there's bloody pee pants I now switch to obscure programs now..or read as virtually housebound..
The radio is not much better local radio gives out road reports over a background noise of drumbeat so can't make header tail of what's going on I have emailed them but no reply...

Yes, that is something I don't get - whey everything has to have some background noise / "music".

Also, a reporter will stand in the rain and tell us it`s raining, stand in the centre of screaming crowds telling us something and no one can hear what they are saying.

You still put up with Radio 4 ? You must be one of the last die-hard listeners !

I used to have "Today" on going to work & "PM" on coming home, but found I was spending too much attention that should have been directed towards traffic conditions shouting at the radio, so latterly took to travelling in silence. Just became a stream of woke, left-leaning, patronising PC BS - like a great deal of the BBC's current output, unfortunately.

Rarely watch anything live now, just record it so that the annoying / patronising / PC / diverse / inclusive adverts can be fast-forwarded in silence. Anything featuring annoying /condescending / patronising / PC "celebrity" presenters does'nt get recorded in the first place !

When I overheard my brother arguing with his TV I vowed to avoid such pointless heckling, not to take anything on TV too seriously and to live a happier less stressful life.

I sometimes watch MPs Question time just for amusement one of my relleis works for one of the parties she corrects the speeches then they are copied and sent to bothe sides of the house So why do they bother ???

I totally agree with all the posts above.
I also used to be a keen devotee to the Today prog on R4 but have virtually given up on all R4 progs. I also have Lord knows how many channels on Freeview but rarely find even one prog a day that is worth watching.

My favourite Freeview channels are:

Sky Arts - sometimes get some decent music stuff on there

Blaze - Lots of stuff about UFOs and the like which has always fascinated me.

Most of the rest of it is dross.

I've no idea how I survived prior to modern TV and radio!

Sometimes I was stupid enough to go out in cold and snow, even on a bike.

I've pretty much stopped watching anything I haven't planned to watch - Have I got News for You is good, as is University Challenge although much too clever for me. Documentaries and travel history stuff. 'Entertainment' generally isn't entertaining in my experience

I watch mainly PBS & U&Yesterday, plenty of docs on history & military, also Sky Arts.
There's also, on various channels, many classic repeats, stuff like the Prisoner, Sweeney etc.
Modern stuff? Quite like some of the drama, although things like Shetland/Vera/Wycliffe it's often as much for the scenery.
Used to listen to R4/R2 a lot, but not recently. Not because of any real or alleged PC bias, but the DAB & VHF signal where I live now is bad.

To return to the OP, there are far too many 'celebrity', game & 'talent'(?) shows.

Totally agree with you Andy most of the television today is absolute c*ap. Apart from the bike racing I watch virtually nothing. However my other half seems to enjoy just about anything. I just retire to the garage during the day to play with one of my projects or my office at night with the radio on Gold or something similar while using my computer.

Talking Pictures on 82 is often worth a look. Lots of old British films often B/W and with catch up.

When my wife was dying at home I would put on the old British films amd play whats that car/Bus/motorcycle, mega nerdism which amused her greatly
