That little shit of a London mayor has now fitted more tax revenue cameras blocking any route from my house onto the A3. I now can't get anywhere on my bikes without paying £12.50, Bastards. At least I had a nice ride today on my big Yam. Chilly but nice. Just waiting to see how much my council tax goes up in April and how much more road tax. It's getting to the stage where I am having to dig into my small amount of saving just to survive.

I know you have family ties to the place but I'm amazed you have stick it out. I can only respect your perseverance, but we do all keep telling you to abandon London. There are still some places in UK that are pleasant to live.

Will I know what you are saying and yes it would be so nice to get out but have so many good memories from here and all my family buried here and I look after there resting place. I do sound like a big softy instead of Wel'ard old rocker. I did have a chance to move to Sussex and bought a small holiday home there with some money left to me . It was so lovely but I just got so bored and didn't spend more than three nights there in the 3 years we owned it. Guess I will just have to put up with all the shit here and survive on Happy Daze.

you do not leave your memeories behind when you move,they go with you. Graves do not need weekly maintenance, brutal as it may seem, the occupants don't care. I doubt if I have visited my ancestors graves more than once.

Its a tricky decision if you have lived in one place for so long. I think at a later age, moving is a lot of stress so i would be inclined to get motorcycles that attract no charge, as quite soon, Jerry may not be able to continue riding so a move will have been wasted. I certainly would not move after living in my Town from birth and this house for 42 years.
Just unfortunate that one man has the power to penalise people in a part of the UK and is virtually unchallenged apart from those sawing the cameras down.
I think Jerry will stay put

I know how you feel all but one of my relatives put to rest within the area.fortunatle I got out before this happened I could see that west London was getting a bit overun by foreigners..
It's getting a bit like that down here only a matter of time I prob won't be around

I have worked in a cemetery so perhaps come at it from a different angle. As the stonemason once said to me,Graves are where promises are made that cannot be kept.
When each of us is gone will our remains be cared for,visited, and talked to and for how long?.
Two aspects to death, oblivion or afterlife, I prefer to believe that I will meet my wife again, if I am wrong I will never know will I? Meanwhile her ashes are by my bed waiting to be mixed with mine before being buried in my garden,its quite a large patch.

My Parents ashes are in Somerset and SE London, never been to either spot. I used to see people in the cemetery talking to their relatives, my view is if those gone can hear you they'll hear you anywhere not just there.

Me, I talk to my wife all round the house, grief is a form of madness, I know I am a bit barmy now.

Hope I have not offended Jerry or any one.

On a stupid note, lets hope bloody Timeteam is not still working in 200years or we'll all be dug up again, but by then all graveyards will probably be Mosques.

Get out while you can Jerry do you want to leave the Old Mod behind in that shithole?

I visit a few relatives that have died but its local for me. 2 of these people have made me very well off in retirement so they get a visit and flowers. I would agree its not essential as one day, we will also die off and may get visits or may not.

I don't just stay because of looking after my family graves I am so lucky to have have had a great time in South Londons Mortlake and Barnes and as they are only 7 miles away can still go back whenever I want and enjoy the area which I have to say is one part of London that hasn't been taken over and still has it's lovely charm. Biggest problem is it's so expensive hence I live down the road a bit. I still go back to some of the pubs I spent my youth in but bloody hell I need a bank loan to buy a beer

Jerry, its interesting that many of the Central London multi million pound flats and houses have dropped in value as owners no longer want to live in an area with so many strange incoming people. It is happening here locally now with rented houses at £1400 a month and the people who rent them are from overseas and rent paid by our Government. locals cannot live here now. My son had to move 35 miles and Nephews about 12 miles to areas where there is no demand as no work available there. At the moment, about 10 properties in the road have been bought to house the overseas people who are able to buy and run very large cars but not go to work.
Some of this is being caught with raids on the Turkish barbers, nail bars and vape shops who operate in the main shopping street. 2 raided 3 weeks ago and all stock removed but re-opened and now has people sitting outside to watch for raids.
Cigarettes at a fiver a pack or vapes with massive nicotine. 6 chairs in the barber but only one cutter and virtually no customers as this is an elderly town and we are getting bald

.
The Uk is changing and now we are punished for holding a Union flag in public in some Cities. I am proud to have a flag pole with a large Union flag all year round although on November 11th, gets a remembrance flag for a few days.
We have so many of these Engineers, architects, Doctors coming in by boat and its about time they began work here to enrich this Country

I grew up in SE26,I also had a great time, but its gone for ever. It was quite a green area back then,parks, woodland, bombsites. I last went back 2007 for Mums funeral, could have cried at the state of it. Yes it as a wrench,I used to say I'd never leave London but after a particularly violent set of circumstances,sold up, took the plunge and moved out in 1988.
Now I live deep in the sticks,can safely ride my bike,walk the dog,leaving the door unlocked, watch the ducks on the lake next door and importantly have space around me. price of beer is not a factor for me, but within a few miles there are about 4 independent brewerys and a Pint bottle of Manns brown ale is a quid in Morrisons. (ok I am not a beer connoisseur).

Your right Jerry the area where you were brought up is almost still the same don't know how that's happened Richmond still looks the same but the other side of the river Brntford has had in Isleworth still the same but Hounslow is a foreign land now most of the pubs have gone the Bell inn is still standing the highstreet no traffic just full of foreign eateries. In my time it had nearly twenty pubs and inns as it was the main road to the west most residents work at the airport ...
It's in my will that my ashes will be scattered inaspecial place for me ...and don't need visitors just memories

Dave I scattered one of my close mates ashes at Mallory Park race circuit and he asked me to come and say hello every time I raced there so this weekend I will keep my promise to him as it's my first race meeting of the year.

pragmatically every time Jerry goes out on his bike or in his van it costs him 12.50. So if he lived outside he could choose or limit how often he coughs up 12.50 thus freeing up beer money.

The latest money maker in Devon is hundreds of new cameras sited at traffic lights around towns and on any long straight road with a 40 mph limit on commuter routes. Drive carefully if you visit Devon or Cornwall or you might be caught. The latest Exmouth camera was replacing one they had on the hill into town. Carefully sited so can only be seen as you go over the brow and has a very large hedge concealing the yellow pole markers. The house owner has helped a bit by cutting his hedge much lower down.

My late wife came from Whitechapel.Spent many years around the area. One of my sons was born in Whitechapel hospital. Last time I was there I was waiting to get my passport stamped.

I will be in Kent on the 21st visiting for 6 days, i will be keeping an eye out for the English people. Maybe i will see about 10 out and about.
Off to a 70th Birthday party and some exploring. Booked a nice hotel outside of London for sure. I am free to roam around in my car as its ULEZ exempt being a hybrid

we are visiting a Niece for a 70th birthday party. Lives in a large mobile home on a gated community site. 250k for a van there which i feel is wasted money compared with a brick building. Nice though and 3 bedrooms. We are staying at a nearby 4 star hotel which looks very nice with gyms and pool etc. We just want to sleep in it ! Good price at about 350 pounds for 5 nights including breakfast

In 1950, the county of Essex started at Ilford, I believe. I was born in Romford, Essex, as my parents were living in Nags Head Lane Brentwood,(used to be 'Burnt Wood' years ago). Always proud to be an Essex boy. Now the Greater London Council tried to have Brentwood and it's environs incorporated into their control zone (and we know what that means). Some years ago, my mother and her neighbours in the Lane all received letters asking it they wanted to be under the GLC umbrella, with all it's 'wonderful advantages'. Everyone said NO. If you look at the ULEZ zone around the M12 of the M25, you can see the result - a neat kink around Nags Head Lane. Otherwise it would have meant a ULEZ charge every time I visited her. Living in Hampshire, I visit the grave of both my parents and grand-parents at South Weald cemetery at least twice a year to tidy it up and say 'Hello'. Up to now, no ULEZ charge.
I resent that the media say that Essex people sound like the TOWIE yobs as portrayed on TV etc. They are not speak the way that true Essex people do.

As someone born in Kent,but grew up in S London I loved Kent,as it was....I knew very orchard I could sneak into for miles walked and cycled, later motorcycled every bit of it, M25 ruined it,now places S of Bromley which were country side extend out to Sevenoaks. 1930s houses now look like dodgy geezers homes, all gated and paved over gardens. Pikey camps along Layhams farm road where there was once wheatfields to ride past on my way to the and Nightingale cafe. Addington got bigger and bigger full of criminals. Bits of it are still beautiful but you need to know where they are. I wantd to weep last time I went back.

I suspect that the people that keep voting for Khan have a much different sense of morals, fairness, or practicality than you and I do, besides having a different end goal.
