Basically a pretty good write-up. If it were my car I would spring for set of chrome valve covers as any Z-24 Impala should have them. As for the Powerglide shift plate being used on the console, in the absence of the correct Hydramatic plate I think that seeing as it is an L72 car it would be fascinating to try to fashion one of those extremely rare "Sportshift" plates with the ratchet shift mechanism. I believe those also used a blank shift plate, instead reverting to the column-shift shift indicator in the instrument panel.
