It was a lot of work gathering stuff up, and even more doing all that work from Feb 1st on, I should of started in October or so, but when your a 1 man show, there are other obligations and deciding to get my butt in gear, one would think after being here16 years from Iowa, that the seasons are the opposite!
I like it here in Arizona but car show season is end of September/ early October till May/ June depending on the year, but it is weird yet at Christmas time not being freezing, being in the shorts.
I think what sold me on living here is a friends son (that had been living here and still does) said “Bill you can’t shovel Sunshine’ and a lightbulb went off, if it was not here maybe Southern California, there were job offered great at both places with the company I worked for, I’m glad I moved here,
As from living here, I was amazed at the amount of people that were moving here from California (Too expensive I guess) I can remember a long time ago a customer from work, I went to her house to look at her car and she said she wintered in Florida, (I was still in Iowa) she Said “ you pick your poison living in the south, either you run from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car to your air conditioned job” or “Run from your heated home, to heated car, to heated job if you want to live in one place” it really never hit me till years later what she meant till my Dad was doing the “Snowbird” thing, When we moved here he moved here full time, he passed in late 2017, but had some real good years with him that I otherwise would not of.
Years like this summer kind of sucked June was pretty nice, then the heat came and hasn’t left, although next week it appears we may get out of triple digits! With no humidity to really deal with 100 is really quite tolerable, just drink plenty of fluids, 110+ is just hot, in the shade with a breeze is tolerable, but when the low 90’s hit it feels like high 70’s in Iowa, 100 in Iowa with 75% humidity, I’ll take 15-20% humidity anytime.
So I don’t like to run the ac in the garage unless I have to, and this year I did more than I wanted to, but at least my car is to a manageable place, was going to just clean up / detail under the hood, well we all know how that goes, where do you stop! Thoughts were starting to be well it’s not a whole lot more to pull the body off the frame and do the rest of the car, and it came back to me, did that once, didn’t want to drive the car for fear of that rock chip, or taking it anywhere and leaving it sit without eyes on it, someone scratching it.... so on, cleaning under the car, that car (59 Impala) was the same deal but the whole car, every nut and bolt, tons of butt welding, 3 years of work 90% done by me, I had someone rebuild the 348, and the trans, five brothers, 5 brother in-laws and some neighbors to set the body back on my frame (took about 10 minutes 5 were telling them what we were going to be doing, was going to run the wheels off that car, but couldn’t, I put 3777 miles on the car when it left for San Antonio TX.
So maybe I’ll be able to run the wheel off this one . Probably a little to much information, but I understand, especially if you are paying someone to the work, it’s why so many cars end up on trailers to shows. Even close shows, I like working on them as much as driving them, but I after doing a ton of work,
No comments on a SS427 clone or “tribute” ? Anything?
SS427 2.0, come on with some ideas, I will never try and present it as the real deal (Unless I find a real deal dated L72 for 2 of none... lol
Thanks again Steve, it has been a whirlwind the last 6-7 months!
