1968 SS 427

Hey guys I am a new member of the website. Great information. I own a 1968 Impala SS 427 with the SS option .Matador red with white parchment interior. I have all the paperwork, bill of sale order sheet protecto plate etc. A/C, full gauges. Nevada and Texas car. No rust anywhere, total survivor. The only knock on the car is the 68 CE block. All the build dates are correct. I cant find out a lot of information on the CE number. If anybody can steer me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to add this car to the SS427 registry. Can you get pics of the cowl tag, protecto plate and order sheet (bill of sale)?

You say all the dates are correct but if it's a replacement block, they can't be. Start with the casting number. It should be 3916321. Usually you got a later block/casting number with a CE. Heads should be 3917215. Often, if the block was warranted, the original heads were re-used if not damaged. You need to find the block casting number, casting date.

So what does the complete stamping on the block in front of the RH (passenger) cylinder head say?

the block stamping is CE 863114

The CE # 863114 the 8 is for 68 the 63114 is a sequence number I believe. Is that correct Nick?

If I remember correctly, I believe You are right. It probably is the production number of all the blocks assembled as short blocks. NICK L72

Thanks for asking Bill. I am doing Rehab and feeling great because I had the best Surgeon around. In fact I am doing Too Much. Ready to start on the Impala SS427. NICK L72

Never seen a warranty block that pre-dates the receipient car's assembly date but yours does. The casting date is coincidentally close to perfect for your car. Odd thing is casting date of 12/09/67 was a Saturday but it is a full week before the car assy. date. My Arlington z24 block was cast on k-7-7, assembled on 12-05-67 and installed in a 12B body. Datewise, yours is tighter than that but works.

The blocks were cast and assembled and put in storage till they were needed. Then they were stamped for their assembled car or sent to a dealer for warranty, the CE code. Some dealers had short blocks in inventory. NICK L72 Chevrolet Technician
