since 1995 is if you win the race as a celeb they you come back to defend as a pro the next year. Alfonso Ribeiro won as a celeb in 94 and 95 and they enacted the Alfonso Ribeiro rule after that. The thought being, it's better for the fans if a different celeb won each year. Wood won the celeb category last year so he was classed as a pro this year, and had to start with the 30 or 40 sec handicap. More useless trivia only two Celebs have won as a celeb and come back to defend and win as a pro. They were Sean Flanery 97,98 and Adam Carolla 12,13. It is also not unusual for them to run the race with only a few pros. In 1996 for the 20th anniversary they ran with no pros and the year before they had only three. When it first started they would get some of the CART drivers in the pro category, but on average I would say they had five pros in the field. So here is another useless trivia question if the board feels up to the challenge? Who are the only Andretti's to compete in the race? What year did they run and how did they finish? |
