Thanks for defending our honor, Jeanne. As most people know, neither of us is stupid, petty, or mean-spirited. Usually, a misspelled name is just a typo to be overlooked. At other times, it is more significant. Just ask any native-born Mexican why s/he hoards a stack of birth certificates. It is because all legal and bureaucratic transactions require presentation of the certificate as proof of identity; the name being used must exactly match the name on the certificate. I apologize for not explaining my reason for correcting the spelling of our beloved bike-fixer's first name. Mea culpa.
