It was a most successful raffle and we thank all who joined in .and if I was Oprah there would be a Samsung under every seat..but alas! And to those of you who donated without interest in the phone…well between both we brought in approx 10,000. pesos so well on our way towards some type of wheelchair or prosthetic devise! Mil gracias! And number 9…Tracy Eagan! Bravo! You can pick the phone up tomorrow at the bookstore from 10-1! Thanks for playing!

It has hand controls, lights, a large basket, and is easy to recharge. It also folds up like a beach chair. If Aduana allows it into Mexico, he will be all set.

About three folks have written about getting him some type of wheels…for now we are focusing on a new wheelchair to aid him once he has totally healed and regained strength.

Ever since Agustin told me several years ago that he could no longer keep my ancient Barbie Bike functional, I have researched electrical options and become somewhat of an expert. The two electric bikes I bought through Amazon and Mercado Libre were sent back at the border, so I ended up buying one that was made in Mexico, even though I really wanted a four-wheeled scooter. When I went back to the States for the first time in nearly 20 years, I saw a four-wheeled scooter on sale at Walmart, but the airlines wouldn't ship it. I've dreamed about that scooter ever since, because it is so easy to ride and recharge. Yesterday, I saw a two-for-one sale on Walmart Mexico online, so I bought them both--one for Agustin and one for me--after checking reviews and the manufacturer's validity. Because they will arrive by sea from the manufacturer in China, I am hopeful that Aduana will allow them into Mexico. The only modification that might be necessary is padding the seat to accommodate the difference in the two stumps. A wheelchair might come in handy someday, but it is wider and usually requires use of the rider's arms. With the scooter, Agustin could leave his room and go out in the world, day or night, forward or backward, at the touch of a button, and ride back in on his ramp to easily recharge it with little effort. I guess I'm requesting that no one make a major investment in buying something else until we determine whether this scooter will meet all his needs.
