I had a busy week. Earlier in the week, we went to a Cringe reading - where people get up and read diaries from their middle and high school. It was pretty awesome. I suggest you go to one in your area if possible.
Then, yesterday, Rach and I decided to go to the rock climbing gym. We rode our bikes down and had a nice little workout.
However, on the way home, I had my first biker / car driver encounter. Picture this: You're riding your bike through Park Slope ... you know, stereotypical Park Slope, famous for unconventional families and babies.
Ahead of you is an intersection. You are riding up hill (and Rachelle is behind you, riding a little slower). The light is green and you have plenty of time to get across without even pushing it. All of a sudden, an SUV in the cross street does a U-Turn in the middle of the intersection FROM HIS RED LIGHT!

Of course, we stop and don't make the light. So Rach and I are at the intersection, behind the crosswalk because we're not dicks. Meanwhile, the SUV was too pus sy to commit to a full U-Turn before the light changes and starts to back up into the lane we are in. So I gave him a look that I guess registered as "Fu ck you asshole, we're waiting here for the light." (although I didn't do or say anything, and really wasn't even paying attention to the jackass moves this guy was doing.)
When the light was about to change, Rach and I biked up to the head of traffic in the crosswalk and got ready to cross. Then, the guy in the SUV looks over and says, "Hey, can I ask you a question? Why, when you saw me backing up could you not fuc king go around me?" Needless to say, I was impressed that this guy was being such a douche, so I told him that maybe next time he shouldn't do a fu cking u-turn from a red light in the middle of the street. At which point he kindly screamed at me to "go fuc k yourself, jerkoff."
I should add that this guy was stereotypical Jersey Shore meathead guy, with a matching accent.
So I said fu ck you, and rode away ... and Rach rode away a little bit more slowly - whoops. (but I did think that I might be getting into a fight ... I should probably watch it here).

Then, at They Might Be Giants, I had to lecture and publicly shame a line cutter (who tried to cut right in front of us. Seriously!?!?)
I think I'm going to get a suit and fight injustice and douchebaggery on the streets of Brooklyn!
