This is you:
My weekend was great. Sara and I went to Nashville Thursday night for a mini-vacay and to redeem the city from the last time we went and Sara wound up in the hospital after passing out in the blistering heat of the Country Music Half-Marathon. We ate a lot of delicious brunches at these amazing places near our hotel.
We did the Country Music Hall of Fame on Friday and spent about 10 hours walking around the downtown area.
Saturday we went to the Grand Ole Opry. We saw the show last time too, but even if you're not a huge fan of country music, if you're ever in Nashville you have to see it. Each show is a series of 4 half-hour radio programs so you see a bunch of artists play 2-3 songs. They cart out these old codgers who have been members for 40-50 years to play and some up and comers. The old codgers they get to host are always super over-the-top hammy which is incredibly entertaining. It leans pretty heavy towards roots country, which I like. Carrie Underwood headlined the show we saw.
We also went to a couple breweries which is super enjoyable for Sara these days. I also went back to Third Man Records which keeps getting better and better. In addition to the record shop, they have a Novelties Lounge with a photo booth, one of those machines that makes plastic molds of Jack White's guitar, and a booth where you can record anything you want and get it pressed to a record. I also picked up a onesie.
On the way out of town Sunday we went by the Whole Foods in Franklin, TN, which is like the Beverly Hills of Nashville. All the famous people have mansions and estates around Franklin, which is about 30 min from Nashville. That's where we ran into Mike Wolfe from American Pickers.
I'm not a huge fan, but it was still weird to see him just out and about with his family. I would've gotten a pic but his granddaughter was omnipresent. The best I could do was get Sara to snap a blurry paparazzi style pic.
The guy in blue behind him was his son the best we could guess. He looked like a douchebag.
Then we also stopped at Whole Foods in Memphis. At both stores combined I probably spent around $100 on beer I can't get in Mississippi.
Great weekend.
Best,
Tim.
