Re: Question for Grants Owners
Truman, first I want to thank you and everyone for coming out Saturday! The Hatten Family and many other great people worked very hard to make that show possible. This is only my 2nd year serving on the board of directors at UCS however my family has been involved with UCS since 1974, so I will do my best to answer your questions. UCS was founded in 1968 as a nonprofit organization and is still a nonprofit organization. The membership owns the track, everyone who is involved with the racing product has to become a member (Traditionally that has been defined by anyone who goes in the pits). Your Membership card will be available next week in the ticket booth. The annual membership fees are all used for capitol investments. The driver fees, pit fees and general admission, are all used for driver payout, operating costs, and capitol investments. UCS is run by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are members of the association elected by the association to handle the affairs of the association. It is all volunteer, none of the directors receive any type of salary. The By-Laws of the Association can be found at; http://uraniumcapitolspeedway.com/General_Rules.htm Scroll down to the bottom of the page and download the link that says, Notarized_Amended__Bi-Laws__3-23-2013.pdf Second, it is true the track does not have insurance, every member (owner) who enters the pits has to sign a release of liability form. I do know the track had insurance a few years ago when there was an influx in membership due to the closing of HHS. When Sandia opened its Dirt Track, over half of the membership left. As a result, the monthly income was less than the cost of insurance. Therefore the membership voted to get rid of the insurance to keep the cost of racing down as well as the general admission. I would like to encourage you and all the other new member/owners come back and keep coming back. Hopefully we can afford insurance again and have weekly payouts that are higher than the average dirt track. I hope I answered your questions. My contact information can be found on the UCS web page. Thanks!
