My Granddaughter and I went to Grants Sat Night 6/8 to watch the races , We were charged $40 each to enter the pits,OUT RAGES to say the least, I was told We had to join "The Club" We were given paper work to fill out so When do We get our "Club" Membership card? I have also been informed that the Grant's Track has NO insurance,If this is so Where does Pit pass the Money go? Where Does the "Club" membership Monies GO? JUST ASKIN Thanks Truman West
Truman, first I want to thank you and everyone for coming out Saturday! The Hatten Family and many other great people worked very hard to make that show possible. This is only my 2nd year serving on the board of directors at UCS however my family has been involved with UCS since 1974, so I will do my best to answer your questions. UCS was founded in 1968 as a nonprofit organization and is still a nonprofit organization. The membership owns the track, everyone who is involved with the racing product has to become a member (Traditionally that has been defined by anyone who goes in the pits). Your Membership card will be available next week in the ticket booth. The annual membership fees are all used for capitol investments. The driver fees, pit fees and general admission, are all used for driver payout, operating costs, and capitol investments. UCS is run by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are members of the association elected by the association to handle the affairs of the association. It is all volunteer, none of the directors receive any type of salary. The By-Laws of the Association can be found at; http://uraniumcapitolspeedway.com/General_Rules.htm Scroll down to the bottom of the page and download the link that says, Notarized_Amended__Bi-Laws__3-23-2013.pdf Second, it is true the track does not have insurance, every member (owner) who enters the pits has to sign a release of liability form. I do know the track had insurance a few years ago when there was an influx in membership due to the closing of HHS. When Sandia opened its Dirt Track, over half of the membership left. As a result, the monthly income was less than the cost of insurance. Therefore the membership voted to get rid of the insurance to keep the cost of racing down as well as the general admission. I would like to encourage you and all the other new member/owners come back and keep coming back. Hopefully we can afford insurance again and have weekly payouts that are higher than the average dirt track. I hope I answered your questions. My contact information can be found on the UCS web page. Thanks!
Jason: Thanks for Your prompt and truthful response, However I think I will pass on a return visit to UCS, I'll put 10 bucks with the 40 you charge and take in an ASCS Sprint car show or a World of outlaws show. BETTER YET I will pay $25 and stay at NAPA Speedway where I belong, where Drivers DON'T pay their own purse THANK YOU Truman West, SEH Motorsports
Truman, I don't know about the sprints, but I had to become a member at Napa, for 13 races I had to pay $75 (per driver), at least at UCS its $20 for over 20 races. For the same price as Napa I could buy 4 pit crew members a UCS membership. As for paying my own purse, in 2011 I won a Street/Hobby Stock race there at Sandia, I won $100 for 20 cars, UCS the prior year with 18cars I won $250. Neither Napa nor UCS pay to start, maybe the sprints do, but I know X-mods and below don't. They only pay the top 50% of the field, weather that's the finishing field or total I don't know as I haven't received anything from Napa since 2011... So does Napa do the same thing in a way? No they pay less than if we paid our own purse. Now I agree insurance would be nice if UCS had it, but you can't sue yourself that's why you have to be a member, at both tracks probably. Napa is out to make a profit, it is a business and I understand that, UCS is a bunch of race fans, Drivers, and Car Owners operating a non-profit race track because they love racing. Profits go to track improvements. I will continue to support UCS and hope you do as well, they are trying hard to keep racing fun and affordable. By no means do I not want you or anyone else to support Napa, but UCS is a good thing being done for the right reasons. They are worth whatever support we can give.
You paid $75 to register a car, I paid $40 to walk in. there is a BIG differance I too paid to register My sprint car and I have NO PROBLEM with that. Pit fee nation for WEEKLY shows are around $20 to $30!! I'm not sure how any payout's work at NAPA the Sprint cars pay out is all I know about. I do think NAPA does run too many classes ,that alone makes for smaller purses . As far as that insurance thing You can beleive that You can't sue Yourself thing all You want, Fact is that if a tire off Your car goes into stands or pits and kills some You, Your, sponsors & owners can be sued and most likely will I'm glad You support UCS, I Will support NAPA that way I don't have to become a partner in a non profit "CLUB" that pays My own purse You race there I'll race at NAPA We'll both have fun.
i'm outraged by the fact that the place doesnt pay you for starting the main. i have never seen anything like it.. we towed 5 1/2 to 6 hours to race there and can't even pay a miserable $20 after a bad luck night? we LOVE that track, but that was my last trip there
some years ago a friend towed to grants for a street stock show almost as long for a 500 to win and won the show and never got a dime. oh well, welcome to hometowning. maybe the check got lost in the mail.
Jason, you really think that in 2013 running any kind of Motorsport event without Insurance is a Smart idea? talk about playing with Fire! God help your track should any racer or spectator get injured during a race....just sayin!
First off thank you to everyone that came out UCS this past weekend. For those of you with complaints Im sorry you feel that way but honestly it is impossible to make everyone happy. Racing is a costly sport no matter where you go so you kinda got to get used to it. Lets try to think of the positive and not always the negative. The Hatten family along with all the sponsers came up with a good payout for all the drivers, car count was at almost 100 cars registered, the stands were over flowing with great people, there was dozens of give aways not only to the fans and kids but to the people in the pits as well. No one was injured, drama was kept to a minimum. All in all I would say it was an awesome night!!!!!!
