I have noticed when a racer is telling fellow racers and fans about a recent race win; likely the first questions he/she will face is:
Where did you start from?
If they state from the pole the audience looses a great deal of interest in knowing much more details because often, there are not a lot more details.
If it is from the fifth row outside however, they break out the pop-corn and want all of the dirt.
Around the campfire the best story is Sammy who went from 17th to 3rd and rarely Steve who wired it green to checker from the pole.
“He won it from the pole” is never used in context as a compliment IMO.
Wins defines championships
Starting position defines the racer
