Ever since the final race day, I have been checking back to this site looking for updates on the local racing scene, I saw some posts about a new track around the Los Lunas area but I have not heard a peep about it in a long while, so is it a dead issue with the introduction of new Clay at Motiva?

There are still a lot of hard working individuals committed to the construction and success of Valencia County Speedway. Our position has always been not to replace Motiva speedway but to enhance the local racing community simply by offering additional racing opportunities. We are pleased that Motiva has added new clay. Heck, if that's all it took to make a track successful, I'd buy a boat load of it tomorrow!
Enhance local racing? I could see building another track if the Sandia/NAPA/Motiva Clay track came to an end, but building a new track within the same driving distance of Albuquerque as the current track does not Enhance the local racing community if there isn't enough community to support the track you already have, does it not? If you want to use the word Enhance, then find a way to increase Pay-out's with Local companies Track sponsorship, put a strict Tech team in place to ensure that every car that competes is within that classes rules for competition so that out of town drivers can feel they have a chance of competing, help the current track with a Catch fence that can safely protect Fans & Driver's alike in the Main Grandstands & Pit Stands, I'm just a Dirt racing fan and in my opinion, Building another track close by does not enhance the local racing community, it strains the already tight finances of the Race Teams & Fans that support the racing we currently enjoy.
It all boils down to whether Valencia has its ducks in a row early on. There are so many people who won't go back to sandia for whatever reason and will probably pop out to the new track to give it a go. If they find the track is well constructed and well run, then they'll stay and word will spread and others will try, leaving sandia in the dust. Of course, no matter how good the track, there will always be whiners, er winners.
Don, God if only the current totalitarian regime in place would allow drivers to help with anything you just said, a driver may not have purchased land to build his own track. It is not VCS's fault if the current facility fails or fails to pull cars, this is just another place for all of us that have don't wish to compete there (for all the reasons you just stated) to be able to race. A need was seen from more than one side, there are a lot of fans alienated from a $15 admission and $2 parking fee in ABQ. Los Lunas is full of people unwilling to drive the distance for those prices; now they barely leave town!
El Paso/Las Cruces both run by the same people. In between the two...lies the dormant Santa Theresa race track..different owner/promoter. Sandia/Valencia county different entities. Safe to say the two principles didn't exchange Christmas cards, last year.
