I am thinking of running over to Amarillo this afternoon for the CDM Late Models, Wing Springs and Mods.

Cars from 7 states....
Stands packed(yawn).
Races started 7:15.
Intermission 8:40 6 classes.
Highlights...
Late model heat winners,
Steve Francis jr. Albuquerque.
Tommy Weder jr. Oklahoma.
Winged sprints...
Kyle McCutcheon from Alamogordo driving the Rick Lovelady 7m put on a rim riding clinic in his heat...won by a bunch.
15 305's.
70 yr. Old Neal Debord beating modified track champion Jeremy Gossett in his heat.
22 A mods.
Great racing...

Wow..15 305 Sprints show up, and Motiva can't get more than 5? Sad...

Everything's bigger in Texas...Car counts, crowds...
It's not just in the 305's that they get more cars than us.
A MODS...last night 22.
They ave.22/25
Sport mods 35/40...they had to run 2 B mains last night.
Street stocks...16 last night.
Cyclone's (think cruiser/pure stock).
23 last night.They let these guys run castoff 12in. Asphalt late model tires.
Not only do they get more cars....
They don't tear them up.
Virtually no carage, they don't put up with it.
Case in point,
Last night they started 24 sport mods.
22 finished the feature.
Cyclone's started 23...18 finished.
It's the same story in every class.
Our last X mod show, we started 18.
7 finished.
Same guy keeps tearing others up every show(ask Tom Malloy).
Nothings done...Car counts go down
No sheriff...to park people.

Yep Mychal is on point. Great racing. Spin a guy out, you go to the pits. And all 24 limited mods were running at ttheinitial white flag too! They went 18 laps without a caution! I'll be back next weekend for sure! Sounds like a few of these clean drivers wanna come to the showdown!

Well Im willing to bet they have a good purse to keep those 22 A-mods happy, same with the X-mods!

Folks,
Went with Mychal Lucero to Amarillo. WOW what a show. All divisions had good car count and the grandstands were packed. Even more folks than two weeks ago for the USMTS show. Mychal tried to go into the grandstands to hear driver names and he could not even find an open seat.

Amarillo can do good payouts because of the large car count and huge fan base. There is more money in the Amarillo economy than New Mexico. It's kinda a viscous circle, low car count = low fan count = lower payouts. If I had the answers, I'd be the track promoter. I'm glad we have a place to race in Albuquerque, Grants, Las Cruces and Aztec and Carlsbad, etc.

Thanks for posting about this event.
Sounds like Amarillo racing is thriving and that is a good thing! All race tracks go through growth periods, focus on the positive.
Motiva could be having the same type of shows sooner than you think.

Thanks Brother, I prefer to spend my time on the positive. There are issues and negative things everyday in this world, but it can all be fixed.

Albuquerque has a really nice dirt track now and with some fine tuning it could be thriving just like other local facilities.

New Mexico Racing has a special place in my heart and I have a lot of Good Friends and Family in the area.

James i remember not too long ago(2008) when you and i and about 30 other guys piloted A mods around an awesome place called Hollywood Hills,the things dreams are made of???

Hey Butch,
Its great to hear from you. I have been thinking about racing all day again, like everyday. Got a couple questions, I was wondering what kind of positive things you have seen at your track recently?

How do those positive changes happen in your opinion???

They are also trying to make two modified classes work here in Banks,OR. Car counts always take a hit that way though, but other tracks have proved that it is very possible to do.

I remember a lot of folks working together at Hollywood Hills and the whole deal just seemed to take off like a wildfire.

Racing is alive and well in our area of the state, our track continues to grow with constantly putting money into this tracks infrastructure, which you have to make happen, we are also continually attracting more sponsors to our track which we need, car counts vary week to week as with most tracks but our fan base is very constant as they are very supportive,if you come to visit make sure you look me up, on race night i'm pretty busy but you can usually chase me down.

That year Bobby Seals ran Hollywood Hills was the best Dirt track racing we have seen since the mid 70's! drawing 1,200-1,500 fans per week, and the Tribe still shut the track down!

Lot of fans, lot of cars and lot of smiling faces

Furthermore-
There was a motorsport event @ HHS that was a “C” rate monster truck show and two main events of Cruisers
(The real attraction in my unbiased opinion) and it sold the place out with many would-be fans turned away. You would have thought the powers to-be would have seen the path to major profitability laid out at their feet. One can only imagine the Casino’s take on a full up Monster Jam show or other similar attractions offered on occasion between the Saturday night program to make substantial the bottom line.
I came away from all that with the realization that maybe the tribe just did not want to be in the race track business.
Sadly, due to the incredible cost to remove it, HHS will likely stand as a ghostly reminder of what “could have been” for many years to come as we travel past it on I-25.

In the southwest racing is alive and kicking and I believe our current woes perceived or otherwise are acute and not chronic.
