I don't know if anyone else is still trying it or not, but I am excited to hear your reports. This is encouraging. I would suggest that you check your sausage for any added sugars. I've yet to be able to find one that doesn't have any. You can find bacon without though. If you are not a fan of bacon and the sausage shows <1 g it is probably ok, but stick as close to zero added sugars as you can get.
