Down But Not Out! Posted by MaryL on 5/4/2018, 12:19 pm I am taking it easy today. I had my antibiotic when I woke up and had to wait 2 hours to have Cambridge. It was worth the wait! Really good!!! Reading the posts about the weekend: it is a huge challenge to rise above all the temptations and pressure. The commercials depict slender, beautiful people out and about enjoying an abundant food. That's pressure and then I feel it coming from another direction. My daughter and grandson are coming for lunch tomorrow. Last night I noticed irritation in my husband's voice yesterday when he made a remark about me not eating what he wants to eat. He never knows what to fix if he has to cook for himself. It's not that hard to throw a healthy simple meal together but he claims to be having difficulty with it. I have to be strong and rise above the temptations this weekend. OK let's do this!

I found that out when I was in my cast for 8 weeks and couldn't walk (for the first time in our 44 years of marriage). He intensely would back away from being able to cook for me. So, I had to go a facility where I was waited on hand and foot. That was okay, but I found out after all of these years that my husband is deathly afraid of cooking. He would rather go to Duncan Donuts to get a fattening breakfast sandwich rather than crack an egg and make me some scrambled eggs. Go figure!! Keep going with Cambridge. I have the same pressures with my spouse and it's time that we did something for OURSELVES, dammit. Your daughter and grandson would rather have you alive and healthy than catering to them with what you have now identified as a negative source for your health. Go get 'em, MaryL

LOL Tomorrow is our church picnic. Ummmmmmmmmm........ I have to make something that I can't "take one of" and not be missed. A cake, yes someone would notice a bite out of a sheet cake right? Right? But I will say there was a day that I baked a cake for my son's birthday while he was at school, ate it, and then had to hurry and bake another before he got home. Now THERE'S a confession!

You are a better woman than I. I know God would forgive me, but I would just go to a nearby bakery and get the cake for the church picnic rather than subject my weak and vulnerable mind to being in the same room with cake batter. Go, get 'em!!

I see signs and cups and tee shirts that say "The Struggle Is Real" It is. It's hard. It sucks. But one day at a time. We could talk about your husband and his issues and such, all day long, (and will whenever you want) but you didn't ask for that. We are here for you. Come to the board no matter what. Small victory or major fall. Perfection is not the name of this game. Getting through each day to do better later, the very next shake. How old is your grandson? Have a great day, we are here. Oh Crap, I knew I couldn't let it go. Sometimes men, hubby dudes just want us to know that we "hear them" Just try and say things that does let him know you do. "I know honey" "I hear ya honey" "I understand honey" (But what you say under your breath is totally acceptable too!!!!)

Significant others can get put out about it when their eating companion is doing something different. If you are the chief cook then that is even more of a challenge. I the main cook in my house too, but Andy is ok fending for himself. He just won't make anything even remotely healthy! Maybe you can do a meal planning session this weekend. Cook up and portion out some meals and put them in the fridge or freezer for him. Yes..he's a grown up and should be able to feed himself, but maybe this gesture will make him feel better. If I'm SSing and don't mind cooking, I can make up a pot of spaghetti for Andy and he will eat off of it for 3 days and be happy. I fill it with lots of veggies and use ground turkey. I've also made chili the same way and he feeds off of that. He's not one to complain about leftovers. He prefers them actually! lol!

My husband won't settle for leftovers. It was OK for him to cook before but now it's seems to be a big deal. I think it's plain and simple diet sabotage.

She would resist but he always made her feel like a failure no matter what she did. He would count the cookies and candy. Recount when he got home from work so he could shame her into being a bad dieter and might as well give up. Not to mention, he, just him, controlled the money, the checkbook, the shopping. Sometimes it is a total mental case situation. Sometimes it is men hate change. Sometimes jealousy rears its ugly head. But, this weekend MaryL. It is about you, your daughter, your grand son, and well, your husband too. Celebrate your time together. (Hugs dears)

Hopefully it's just an adjustment phase and he will get past it. If you show that you are really committed this time and that your motive is to be healthier and happier for yourself, for him, and for your relationship, maybe he'll get on board and be supportive. But even if he doesn't, you need to do this and get healthy. You can always come here and vent if you need to!
